The benefits of the Brigade to us and our Church and Community:

The Company involves young people and their families in positive youth work and activities to engage them with the Church and the wider community.

The Company engages those young people who may not otherwise go to Church to get involved with the Parish and discover what Christianity is about for themselves.

The Company gets young people involved in activities that benefit their community and Church and develop them as people in their transition from childhood to adulthood.

The Company is intrinsically linked with the Church and is Christian.

The Object of the Brigade is to extend the Kingdom of Christ amongst lads and girls

and to encourage faithful membership of the Church.

Prayers of the Brigade:

"Heavenly Father, bless and guide with your Spirit, the work of the Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade. Help us never to be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified. To fight valiantly under His banner, against sin, the world, and the devil, and to continue His faithful soldiers and servants to the end of our lives. Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou, Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God thrust down to hell Satan and all wicked spirits, who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.'

Patron Saint of the Brigade:

The Brigade's Patron Saint is Martin of Tours. A banner depicting Saint Martin, which was presented by the Brigade in 1921 to honour those members who died in the First World War, is kept at Westminster Abbey.

Throughout the country young people and children are continuing to enjoy fun, faith, fellowship and, through The Brigade, are learning to be better equipped to cope with the demands that society places upon them. The Brigade creates a caring and safe environment in which friendships between young people and children and adults can be established and helps young people and children to grow in confidence, develop their skills and abilities enabling them to work together and show care and concern for others. We encourage young people and children to explore their spirituality and respond to the Christian faith, and to develop their moral values and a respect for the environment.

A brief History...

The Church Lads' and Church Girls' Brigade (CLCGB), often referred to as 'The Brigade', is the Anglican Church's own uniformed youth organisation: welcoming children and young people of all faiths and none, with branches in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Bermuda, Kenya, South Africa, Newfoundland and St Helena. Its origins lie in the formation in 1891 of the Church Lads' Brigade with its sister organisation, the Church Nursing and Ambulance Brigade for Young Women and Girls, later the Church Girls' Brigade, founded in 1901.

The two respective founders were Colonel Walter M Gee and The Revd Thomas Milner.

The two Brigades amalgamated in 1978 to form the Church Lads' and Church Girls' Brigade.

The Church Lads' Brigade was one of the founding members of The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS), and the Church Lads' and Church Girls' Brigade remains a member by virtue of its work towards the personal and social development of young people.

We meet every Friday:

6.0 pm - 8.0 pm Brigade

SUNDAY:

(First Sunday of each month)

11.0 am Mass with Church Parade and sandwich buffet afterwards
